The City of Richmond has declared a state of emergency as heavy rains have brought severe flooding locally and across the region. City officials are urging residents to stay home if it is safe, and to comply with evacuation orders. Citizens are also advised to tune into emergency broadcasts and to set alerts on their smart phones.
All City departments are advised to deploy their emergency response plans. This Order is in effect until further notice.
The National Weather Service advises that motorists do not attempt to drive in high waters, but to turn back if possible. Most deaths that occur in flooding happen as a result of flooded vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Madison County Emergency Management Agency has issued a map of multiple roads that are closed due to flash flooding. EMA officials are urging motorists not to attempt to drive around barricades. Updated interactive maps of flooding across the entire county can be found at this link. In Berea, Peggy Flats and Walnut Meadow are closed due to flooding.
