Barred owls are year-round residents in Berea, but by autumn, when their owlets are grown and independent, they are not as easy to spot. It is remarkably easy to walk right past them as they perch on branches very close to the tree trunk and blend right in. But at night, and sometimes even during the day, you may still hear their call—“Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you all?” And speaking of food, barred owls have a varied diet, including small rodents and birds, frogs and fish, and insects.
