Without a way to access fair, independent, and rigorous reporting, communities are not as strong as they could be. The Edge was founded to help fill this gap, to give Berea and Madison County a reliable source for the kind of fact-based news and information critical to civic engagement.

And, wow, have you responded! The Edge has had some stories reach as many as 22,000 views. Every month we reach many thousands of readers across the county. And that is simply from you telling your friends and family. We have done no promotion except take a booth at the Spoonbread Festival. That effort gained us 30 new subscribers. and we are grateful for every single one.

Since October 2024, The Edge has published more than 200 articles, features, podcasts, and columns. Our local government coverage is reliable, fair, and independent. That's not just our opinion, that's what some elected officials and multiple readers say about The Edge.

We were the first to cover the controversy around EKPC’s Big Hill Line, and our thorough coverage is ongoing. We exclusively covered the financial scandal at Community School, demonstrating the superintendent was incompetent, not corrupt. Most of our stories are exclusive to The Edge.

Just this week, The Edge was the first to warn of the likelihood of developers wanting to build data centers in our region, with information on how local governments can and should prepare.

For paid memberships, there is Postmortem, a relaxed, often humorous column published most Sundays, that examines the week that was, and looks ahead to the week to come.

But what if we could do more? What if we could add a crime beat? What if we could offer more features, more podcasts? More news? Hire a new reporter?

That’s a question that can only be answered by you, because public support is the engine of The Edge's success.

If you have read even just one story that made you feel more informed, more connected to your community, or more empowered, then please consider making a tax-deductible donation in any amount. No amount is too small.

If you’re on the list of free subscribers, I have added a new option for becoming a paid subscriber. This is an experiment, and may not be permanent, so this is a good time to purchase a subscription at a lower yearly rate. But if a subscription is out of your range right now, please consider donating what you can afford.

And if you are a business, please contact me about our new, lower advertising rates. editor@theedgebereaky.com

Most of all, if you love The Edge, please share it widely! Please keep up that word-of-mouth support. It matters.

Thank you for helping to sustain The Edge and keep our community strong.
