Madison County man charged with murder-domestic violence after fatal shooting
MADISON COUNTY—Jake McClure, 34, has been charged with murder-domestic violence after fatally shooting roommate Eddie Matthews, 64, on July 6.
McClure called 911 after shooting Matthews. The Madison County Sheriff's Office responded to the call at approximately 7:54 pm at 219 Barker Lane East. The County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison pronounced Matthews deceased at 8:35 pm. McClure surrendered and did not resist arrest, according to County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Michael Stott.
The two men were not related, but their exact relationship is unknown, according to County Deputy Sheriff Tony Terry, who spoke with The Edge in a brief sit down interview. There is no current indication that drugs were involved. “Two men did get into an argument. They were roommates and one man shot the other, but there was only one weapon involved,” said Terry.
McClure is currently being held in the Madison County Detention Center. A previous call from another county regarding a domestic dispute between McClure and Matthews is being looked into, according to Terry. Otherwise, McClure is not known to have a criminal history.
The shooting is still being investigated by the Madison County Sheriff's Office, and the cause of the argument that led to the shooting has not yet been determined.
